Jof di Miezegnot means “Midnight Peak” in the local language. The peak and the entire mountain range were an important area during WWI. The Italian and Austrian armies occupied these mountains with their front lines facing each other’s, in some areas less than 100 feet apart! The ruins of the Italian Headquarters are an interesting destination for a day hike from Valbruna; one of the buildings is now a bivouac open to hikers for a rest stop or to spend the night. The entire mountain is dotted with War ruins and the summit provides unobstructed 360 degrees views of the Julian Alps and several Austrian mountain ranges.
